Distinguished Alumni Gala

Note: Due to 2024 being a celebration of the 125th Anniversary of Texas State, we will not be selecting new Distinguished Alumni, Young Alumni Rising Star, or Denise M. Trauth Outstanding Leadership Award recipients. In 2024, we will celebrate all past recipients at the 2024 Distinguished Alumni Gala. More details to come.

About the Gala

Beginning in 2010, the Alumni Association and Texas State University have annually honored the recipients of the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award during the Distinguished Alumni Gala. This dinner and celebration has become one of the most anticipated events on our campus, bringing together alumni, faculty, staff and friends of Texas State.

Held each fall during Homecoming weekend, the Gala celebrates Texas State University and honors alumni whose prominence and distinction have increased pride within the university community and served as inspiration for others. The Gala draws over 400 of the region’s most prominent corporate and community leaders, along with university administrators, alumni and friends.

The black-tie optional event includes an exclusive VIP Reception, an exquisite dining experience, and an inspirational awards program.

About the Awards

Alumni awards recognize the University’s alumni who have achieved prominence and made a significant impact on the lives of others through their profession, accomplishments, affiliations, and service to society and the University. The achievements of award recipients inspire pride and recognize the important impact of the student experience at Texas State University.

The Distinguished Alumni Award was established in 1959 to honor outstanding alumni and celebrate their achievements. The first Texas State Distinguished Alumni Award was presented to Senator Lyndon B. Johnson, who later served as thirty-sixth President of the United States of America. To this day, Lyndon B. Johnson’s legacy inspires excellence at Texas State University as it maintains the unique distinction of being the only university in Texas to have graduated a U.S. President.

The Young Alumni Rising Star Award was established in 2015 to honor outstanding young alumni (under the age of 40) and celebrate their achievements.  The inaugural three recipients of the award were honored at the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Gala.
