Learn More about the Young Alumni Council

Who we are

The Young Alumni Council is a group of passionate Texas State graduates under the age of 40, from diverse backgrounds, career fields, majors, demographics, and regions. They represent over half of all living Bobcat graduates and serve to engage and support their peers and maintain their connection with the Texas State Alumni Association and Texas State University.

The Council consists of 15 Members-at-Large, who serve a two-year term, 6 Officers (five elected officers and an Immediate Past Chair), and 1-3 honorary and/or ex-oficio members selected at the Officers' discretion.

What we do

The Young Alumni Council is responsible for providing insight into the wants, needs, and areas of growth for our young alumni and supporting programs and events that meet those needs. The Council is also responsible for awarding Texas State's prestigious Young Alumni Rising Star Award to exemplary Bobcats under the age of 40. Council members each serve on at least one committee or task force, which includes the following areas of focus:

  • Student Transition - connecting junior and senior students to resources and programs which prepare them for life as alumni, creating meaningful avenues for student connections with alumni, and engaging students and recent grads with the Alumni Association in membership and through programs which suit their unique life situation
  • Leadership Development - engaging young alumni with leadership positions in the Alumni Association and University, to include selecting new Council members and Officers for each application cycle
  • Outreach - serving as the voice of young alumni to inform Association marketing and promotion, and finding meaningful avenues for young alumni to be connected to Texas State in their region in collaboration with Alumni Groups and Chapters

Join the Young Alumni Council

Members of the Council collectively serve as engaged supporters of the Alumni Association Strategic Plan and demonstrate experience and expertise in several of the following Key Result Areas:

  • Student Engagement and Support
  • Marketing and Public Relations
  • Leadership and Strategic Effectiveness

Strong candidates are young alumni (under the age of 40) who are proud of their alma mater and possess a demonstrated continuing interest in Texas State through contributions of time, talent, or monetary support. They are Bobcats with a diverse perspective or experience with demonstrated leadership ability, professional or volunteer background and/or achievements that add value to the council. Further, candidates should be or are willing to become active members of the Alumni Association.

Council positions require a time and energy commitment that should not be underestimated. Attendance is required to at least three of four on-campus meetings per year and in quarterly committee meetings by conference call. Candidates are encouraged to consider personal and career priorities during the coming years in addition to their desire to contribute to the strategic goals of the Association and University.
