The Big Ideas Virtual Week five-day event provides an up-close and personal view into the robust research investment that is transforming the future of Texas State University as a national research university.
This five-day, free event (hosted on Zoom) will be held from the comfort of your home or office, and begins on Monday, September 28 and ends Friday, October 2. Each day, a single Big Idea will be highlighted by alumni, industry partners, faculty and students, with live streamed presentations and pre-recorded, in-depth conversations.

Bobcat alumni and industry leaders will talk about how Big Ideas research emerging from Texas State is being applied out in the world. You will be proud to see how the university is contributing cutting edge research capabilities, preparing the best and brightest minds at Texas State to address today’s challenges and opening new professional pathways for our students through Big Ideas.
This virtual event will be every bit as amazing as a traditional format because we brought the same great content (more actually!) and formatted each session to be as engaging as possible.
All live streaming presentations will occur daily, in morning and afternoon sessions at dedicated times. You don’t have to choose between them, you can attend as many as you want. Monday, September 28/ Learning With Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality
Discover ways augmented and virtual reality technologies are being used to revolutionize law enforcement training, construction, engineering, and more. The AM session will feature alumni and industry partners utilizing AR/VR in their work. The PM session will showcase students and faculty members who are focused on research projects related to AR/VR. Monday Schedule
Tuesday, September 29/ Translational Health
Researchers at Texas State are working to put academic research into practice to improve the health and wellness of people. During the AM session, learn from alumni and industry partners about Translational Health as it relates to cancer research, nutrition, health communication, aging and dementia studies, and addiction. The PM session will include speakers from the Be the Match Program and the Texas School Safety Center. Tuesday Schedule
Wednesday, September 30/ Materials With Intelligence
Faculty researchers are focused on finding practical ways to advance sensor technology and create new materials that can reconfigure themselves to react to environmental conditions. The AM and PM sessions will feature faculty and students covering topics on improving the lifecycle management of infrastructure through sensor systems and predictive modeling. Wednesday Schedule
Thursday, October 1/ Harnessing Big Data
Texas State faculty are leading data scientists who have partnered with the National Institutes of Health and Fortune 500 companies. During the AM session, hear from industry partners and alumni about how harnessing big data addresses complex societal problems in banking, construction, mental health, workplace technology, and more. In the PM session, faculty and students are working to position Texas State as an international leader in data science. Thursday Schedule
Friday, October 2/ Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Innovation driven entrepreneurship is preparing graduates with an entrepreneurial mindset who are self-motivated innovators and creators.
