About
In March 2011, the U.S Department of Education granted Texas State University official recognition as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). In response to this announcement President Denise Trauth stated, “It has been our goal for several years to become an HSI. Now it is time we direct our efforts toward becoming the best HSI in the state. It is not enough to recruit talented students from all ethnicities – we must also continue to retain those students and see that they graduate.”
In support of the university goals, the Hispanic Chapter of the Texas State Alumni Association was established with the mission to connect and mobilize Hispanic alumni to strengthen and expand the opportunities for both current and prospective students to succeed at Texas State University and to establish closer contact between the University and Hispanic Alumni.
Events
The Hispanic Chapter hosts on-campus alumni panels for students and alumni events, like tailgates in conjunction with Bobcat football games. In 2015, the Hispanic Chapter is looking to grow chapter events to include a spring fundraiser for student scholarships as well as regional alumni mixers.
