Thanks-For-Giving 2014
Tuesday, November 18, 2014

On November 18, the Alumni Association and the University Ambassadors hosted an on-campus effort, Thanks-For-Giving, to gain insight into what students are thankful for and ask them who (or what) has contributed to their Bobcat education.

Thanks-for-Giving is a celebration of the contributions that donors, parents, family members, friends, professors and staff members make to ensure all Bobcats have a great Texas State experience. We hung a giant banner and encouraged students to write these notes of thanks for all to see.

During this holiday season, we were happy to see these Bobcats' hearts were as large as their school spirit. Now we have to ask, what are YOU thankful for?

A Holiday Treat, Just for You
Tuesday, November 11, 2014

Dear Bobcat Family,

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on what makes us most grateful. Here at the Alumni Association, we’re overwhelmingly grateful to you: our alumni, scattered across Texas, the nation and the globe.

Thank you for keeping the Bobcat Spirit alive, for giving back to students through your membership, for connecting at alumni events, and so much more. This year, we’ve seen unbelievable growth, but one thing is for certain: the best is yet to come.

As a token of our gratitude, we'd like to gift to you a collection of exclusive printables. These are perfect to hang in the office or at home, the perfect way to remind you of your home in the Hill Country.

We hope you enjoy this holiday season with those you love, and use this time to reflect on what you’re truly grateful for, too!

Once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat,

Tuesday Night Lights at Bobcat Stadium
Monday, October 13, 2014

On October 14, Texas State will have the opportunity for unmatched national exposure by hosting a nationally televised Tuesday night football game at 7 p.m. on ESPN2.  For the first time since 2005, and the first time since becoming an FBS program, the Texas State football team will be featured on ESPN2 as they take on the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Champion Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns.

This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase Texas State University, the city of San Marcos, and all of the surrounding Bobcat communities.  As the only college football game on television that evening, the impact that a sold-out Bobcat Stadium could have on the millions of households watching is tremendous. This opportunity could result in not only increased brand awareness for Texas State University but in an increased economic impact and exposure for our community as a whole.

Here are just some of the ways you can join in on the fun:
- Texas State Alumni Game Ticket Discount: Use promo code "ALUMNI" to get a $10 Reserved Ticket
- Central Texas Chambers of Commerce Day

If you can't make the game, be sure to join a Watch Party near you to enjoy the game with fellow Bobcats.

Class Ring Days Announced
Wednesday, September 10, 2014

The Alumni Association, the University Bookstore, and Balfour will host the fall semester's "Ring Days" in the Bookstore, located inside LBJ Student Center, during September 16-18, from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. During this occasion students will have the opportunity to get sized and order their Official Texas State Class Ring. It is the perfect way to remember one's time at Texas State and keeps university traditions alive for generations.

Students follow the tradition of dipping their rings in the waters of the San Marcos River, which flow in a fountain at the ceremony. Centered on the top of the Official Ring is a Texas “lone-star” set upon an oak and laurel leaf wreath. The left side of the ring features Texas State’s original campus building, the red-gable roofed Old Main, with “tubers” floating by on the steady flow of the San Marcos River. San Marcos gave birth to the university by giving it Chautauqua Hill-the hill where Old Main opened its doors in 1903. Since the late 1800s, people traveled from miles around to Chautauqua Hill to meet. Today, Old Main is the focal point of campus, perched above the “Quad” which is still the central gathering place for students.

More information about class rings can be found on our website and on the University Bookstore website. Students with 75+ credit hours may participate in the fall Ring Ceremony, hosted by the Association, on November 21. Students may also enter to win one of 25 free class rings through the Gold Book.

Between the months of June and August, thousands of Bobcats flock to San Marcos to begin their journey as a Texas State student. So far, approximately 5,300 students attended on campus orientation with 2,700 family members at over 25 sessions.

Approximately 6,000 t-shirts were distributed to our new Bobcat family, with over 4,000 of those being traded in for a new shirt for a 25% increase over 2012.
